This is a reproduction filler cap for the Burman GB Gearbox as fitted to Ariel 4-stroke models from 1952 -1959.
This will fit the NG, VG and VB De-Luxe, NH, VH and VHA Red Hunter, KH and KHA Fieldmaster, FH Huntmaster, 4G Square Four and the VCH, HS, HT and HT3 competition machines form 1952 through the end of production.
This is made on my home lathe-mill combo. The material is "FORTAL" which is a 7xxx series aircraft alloy. It is a much harder material than the original pot-metal. These are not polished or fully deburred and do show the machining marks, but will work as-is. The material does take a high polish if you want to put in the effort. The hex is 3/4" which is larger than the original and as it is machined and not cast the sides are parallel so a standard 3/4" AF spanner will fit well and have less of a tendency slip off and mangle things.
I started making these 15 years ago as I needed two for my own bikes and none were available at that time. I planned to make a batch but the manual machining process was too time consuming so I abandoned the idea and the pile of part-finished blanks have been in a drawer ever since. I now have CNC on my machine and I decided to pull them out and finish them off.
